সংবিধানে আদিবাসী: ৫৪ বছরের বঞ্চনা ও স্বীকৃতির সংগ্রাম

 

২৬ মার্চ আমাদের স্বাধীনতা দিবস। একাত্তরের এই দিনে যে মুক্তির বারতা ছড়িয়ে পড়েছিল, তার পেছনে ছিল ধর্ম-বর্ণ-জাতি নির্বিশেষে আপামর জনসাধারণের ত্যাগ। রক্তক্ষয়ী নয় মাসে লক্ষ লক্ষ প্রাণের বিনিময়ে অর্জিত এই স্বাধীনতায় সমান অংশীদার ছিলেন পাহাড় ও সমতলের আদিবাসী মানুষরাও। কিন্তু পরিতাপের বিষয় হলো, ৫৪ বছর পেরিয়ে আজও বাংলাদেশের সংবিধানে সেই বীর যোদ্ধাদের এবং তাদের জাতিসত্তার মৌলিক স্বীকৃতি মেলেনি। স্বাধীন দেশের মানচিত্রে নিজেদের অস্তিত্বের অধিকার খুঁজতে গিয়ে আদিবাসীরা যেন আজ নিজভূমে পরবাসী।

Tourists' entry to CHT is restricted for security reasons

Security forces are restricting tourists' entry into the remote hills of the Chittagong Hill Tracts lately on security grounds, according to bdnews24.com correspondent Biplob Rahman. After a weeklong sojourn into the remote hills and forests of the CHTs, Rahman reported Wednesday that a huge number of local and foreign tourists were found crowding Bandarban town in the peak of the winter season.

EC makes no move on CHT local elections

The Election Commission has taken no initiative to hold elections to the regional and three district councils, administered under specialised rule, of the Chittagong Hill Tracts. The EC, however, is preparing to hold polls to local government bodies in the rest of the country despite political parties saying that it is mandated to stage only parliamentary polls. Chief Election Commissioner ATM Shamsul Huda told bdnews24.com Friday morning that according to the CHT peace treaty and laws related to it, elections to those areas were to be held in line with a voter list prepared separately for the permanent residents of those areas. "But the voter list currently being prepared with photographs in the CHT is for the national elections," he added. bdnews24.com Senior Correspondent Biplob Rahman reports

"I was ready to sacrifice my life to protect my home from the clutch of Asia Energy. I did not have any grief if the bullet pierces my chest and if I die", a Phulbari protester told BDNEWS on Wednesday lying in a bed at the Upazila Health Complex.

Phulbari (Dinajpur), Aug 30 (BDNEWS) – "I was ready to sacrifice my life to protect my home from the clutch of Asia Energy. I did not have any grief if the bullet pierces my chest and if I die", a Phulbari protester told BDNEWS on Wednesday lying in a bed at the Upazila Health Complex.

The comment came from Ganesh Karmaker (36), a member of the Saotal community, who had bullet wounds in his leg during Saturday's police firing on the protesters demanding withdrawal of Asia Energy from Phulbari.
